At what age did you begin singing or playing an instrument?
I have been singing for my entire life, ever since I was able to! I joined the school band as soon as I was old enough to participate, and since then I’ve been constantly learning how to play new instruments! I learned to play guitar, my main instrument, from my dad when I was 11.
What inspired you to become a singer/songwriter?
I’ve always loved songwriting and the story telling side of it. I’ve been writing lyrics and melodies in my head for as long as I can remember, so it just sort of came naturally to me. I never really had a life changing moment that inspired me to become a singer songwriter, I was just born with the passion for it.
What genre would you call your music?
My music is modern country, but I love all genres of music.
Is there anything you have learned from being a singer/songwriter?
I’ve learned a lot from being a singer songwriter. But I think the most important thing I’ve learned is how to work hard for what I want. Being an indie singer songwriter isn’t easy, but it’s incredibly rewarding.
What does it mean to you to be a singer/songwriter?
Being a singer songwriter is my whole life. It’s always been “my thing”, and it’s who I am. Everything I do is somehow a result of my music, and I can’t imagine what my life would be like if I never picked up a guitar or wrote down the lyrics that popped into my head.
What part about being a singer/songwriter do you enjoy most?
I really love the creative side. I’ve always loved being creative, ever since I was a kid. I just love being able to create a song from nothing. Coming up with melodies, lyrics and adding instrumentation is like a big puzzle for me.
Have you made any friends because of being a singer/songwriter?
Yes, for sure. I love to write with other songwriters, and by doing so I’ve met some pretty cool people! I also love getting to know anyone who is a fan of my music!
Have you traveled because of being a singer/songwriter?
Yes, I have traveled for shows quite a bit. I also moved from my hometown of Rochester, NY to Nashville, TN for my music.
Have you done something exciting because of being a singer/songwriter?
I’ve done a lot of things I would call exciting because of being a singer songwriter. I’ve been able to meet people I’ve always looked up to, seen amazingly talented people perform, record in several studios, play in big venues, do interviews on live TV and radio, and more. But everything seems exciting when you’re following your dream!
