When did you begin singing or playing an instrument?
I began singing in church when I was 3 years, and got my first guitar when I was 10.. However it wasn’t until just in the past year that I seriously pursued playing. I have been playing the mandolin for about 2 years now, and just in the last few months did I pick up the ukulele!
What inspired you to become a singer/songwriter?
My whole family has always been very musical, so I have been around it all my life. I just fell in love with singing from a young age! I always wanted to be able to write my own material, but I never was much of a songwriter. But one day I was just settin’ around, and a song came to me (Jesus and My 6 String)… I wrote it down and have been writing ever since!
What genre would you call your music?
Country & Western
Is there anything you have learned from being a singer/songwriter?
I think learning to write my own material has really opened my eyes to the whole process of how a song is made. It definitely tries your patience… but makes you appreciate the beauty of a good song even more.
What does it mean to you to be a singer/songwriter?
I have always wanted to be able to share my passion for music and singing with people, so to finally be in a position to reach an audience is a dream come true.
What part about being a singer/songwriter do you enjoy most?
Honestly, I just love everything about it. I love singing, performing, writing… There’s no bigger thrill than getting up on stage and watching the crowd get into a song with you.
Have you made any friends because of being a singer/songwriter?
I’ve reached so many people all thanks to my music! I’ve made some friends that I’ll hold dear to my heart forever… and that’s one of the greatest things about the industry!
Have you traveled because of being a singer/songwriter?
Although most of my shows have been in the West Virginia/Kentucky area, the occasional trip to Nashville is just as fun!
Have you done something exciting because of being a singer/songwriter?
Well one thing that tops the list, is getting to sing on stage with Ralph II and The Clinch Mountain Boys. There’s actually a really funny story behind that, it was an awesome night!
